News in Brief

# The Annual Presentation Dinner was held on 26th April at the Fairways Hotel in Brinsworth. The results are below.

#Inter club Karting Championship - 1st event took place at Wakefield at F1-Karting on Tuesday 1st April. It was a good turnout by all the clubs and everyone had a good time (except for the aches and bruses the next day!)  It was a mini Grand Prix with 6 lap practice, 6 lap qualifying and 8 lap final.

# Archie and Sasha competed in the  Ryemoor Trophey rally on 15th/16th March.  A huge entry list and got 14th o/a and 3rd novice.

# The club recently marshalled on the Robin Hood (8th and 9th March 2008)

# ANEMMC presentation night in February.  An excellent night, Mick, Annette and Sasha all collected their awards (and most of us managed to get them home in 1 piece - Sasha had a few more pieces- how not to collect an award by Sasha Heriot!).  We also collected Jon's award who couldn't make it on the night.

# Bruce Robinson  Road Rally on 9th/10th February.  Archie and Sasha had a good run and picked up 1st Novice and 6th Overall.  Blown it now - novices no more!  Was an excellent rally with 2 airfields each done twice, fab roads and good navigation.

# EMAMC presentation night on Saturday 19th January.  Sasha and Mick picked up their awards!

It was an excellent night with good food and a good bunch of people.  Hope more club members get the chance to go next year and collect some more awards!

The awards are below.

# Maple Garages - Beaver Rally 2007 (by Archie)

Wow wow and wow. What a fantastic event, put on by the Beverly & District MC. Richard and I thoroughly enjoyed this event as the season closer, with nothing to loose, an opportunity to properly go for it. Right from the off, the easy on-line entry system paved the way for exemplary organisation. Exceptional handouts and pre-plot lead to a well laid out airfield section with the best map ever seen meaning some serious fun was in order even during the brain meltdown early hours of the morning. I personally hate using whites (& moan like hell how rough they are in a std ish car) but the choice of competitive off road mileage was a perfect balance of the local areas tarmac sections. The second run through the airfield proved to be the most fun I've had in a car for years unfortunately loosing some time due to trying to keep sideways for longer than necessary. Once we had Annette and Sasha in their little Pug in out lights they proved that neat and tidy driving could indeed keep pace with a more flamboyant style when it came to the twisty stuff (a marshal on the 4th manned pc noted out interesting use of a grass bank to aid our cars cornering gusto). All in all I couldn't care less about the result and had so much fun for 80 squid, some fuel and the inevitable lower wishbone bush change. Many thanks to BDMC for a cracker! The big thank you goes to all the mrashals, many of whom covering 3 controls, getting covered in gloop and cack, with a healthy gust of wind to cool them to the bone. The sport wouldn't happen without you!

# Final road rally 2007 - Annette and Sasha won third novice and Archie and Richard won 2nd novice in the Beaver Rally on the 24/25th November.  Jon and Mick got 32nd O/A. So again a good turn out from the club in terms of competitors and marshals (Jeremy, Chris, Jed, Steve and John).

# MSA Rally Marshals Training sessions, under the Volunteers In Motorsport auspices, are being run around the country during 2008.  Details pertaining to the sessions available at each Training Day can be found on the Volunteers In Motorsport website (www.volunteersinmotorsport.co.uk) by following the "Training" link at the bottom of the homepage.

Currently the nearest Training Days are :-

1, Association of North Western Car Clubs (ANWCC) at Stockport College on Saturday 26th January

2, Association of Northern Car Clubs (ANCC) at Askham Bryan College (York) on Sunday 27th January

3, Association of North East Midland Motor Clubs (ANEMMC) at University of Derby on Sunday 24th February

(Your members will find the appropriate 'online application form' for each Training Day against it's ViM website entry)

As always this training is provided FREE OF CHARGE by MSA Marshals Instructors - the only costs to attendees being their fuel, plus either the college refectory or local café prices for breakfast and lunch, if people don't wish to take their your own sandwiches. The first was a success and the new format worked well!
